"Memb-PASS Membrane Protein Crystallography Methods"

June 7, 2011 — Membrane Protein Crystallography Webinar presented by Prof. Michael C. Wiener, Ph.D.  Use less protein and accelerate the process of crystallizing Membrane Proteins using the Patent Pending Memb-PASS Screening Kits from Omscientia.

Prof. Wiener, and members of his laboratory at the University of Virginia, have developed, and licensed to Omscientia, a microplate-based detergent screening method that rapidly characterizes the stability and size of membrane proteins exchanged into a large panel of ninety-four different detergents.  The entire assay utilizes sub-milligram quantities of membrane protein, and requires only several hours to perform.  Additionally, the Wiener lab has developed, and licensed to Omscientia, a matched set of pre-crystallization solubility and crystallization screens.  Once the protein is in a suitable detergent, as determined by the (differential filtration) assay, a twenty-four-condition solubility screen is used to determine the proper protein concentration for crystallization.  Once at proper concentration, the protein can then be set up for crystallization with an innovative ninety-six-condition screen, developed and tuned for integral membrane protein crystallization.
